Amazon Alexa - Develop a simple skill - Super Rocket (UPDATED)
Did you ever wonder where space launcher business is heading? Where does the next space rocket start? When? Why? Stop wondering and ask Alexa.
You can use the skill in two different modes.
"start super rocket" "When does the next rocket start?" or "Where does the next rocket start?" or "Why does the next rocket start?"
"starte superrakete" "Wann statet die nächste Rakete?" oder "Wo statet die nächste Rakete?" oder "Warum statet die nächste Rakete?"
Please note: The Skill ends the session after one launch and has to be re-launched. Luckily you can launch it as many times as you want. I think the right term is reusable.
Short command style
"Ask super rocket where" "Ask super rocket when" "Ask super rocket information"
"Frage superrakete wo" "Frage superrakete wann" "Frage superrakete informationen"
The Tech behind and development issues
Scraping and translation in onSessionStarted() of the skill script was too slow.
The data is now scraped by a Python script from my own server. The translation is done with the Google Cloud Translate API. Every 15 minutes a simple HTML page is dumped by a cron job.
Naming the skill was not easy. It was rejected multiple times. The names below violated the Amazon guidelines because they contained skill keywords:
Known issues (May 27th): Sometimes the skill does not request the data fast enough from the HTML page. Will be fixed.
- UPDATED on July 25th. Changed server side code.
